On a special day in the history of Government High School (GHS) Dina, we were honored to welcome the renowned writer, poet, and television host, Mr. Mustansar Hussain Tarar. The purpose of his visit was to record a tribute to the legendary Indian poet, screenwriter, director, and filmmaker, Gulzar (Sampooran Singh Kalra), who once called GHS Dina his alma mater. This event marked a beautiful intersection of history, literature, and cinema as Mr. Tarar set out to capture the essence of Gulzar’s early life for his upcoming documentary, Karwan.
Gulzar’s Connection to Dina
Before he became the iconic figure known for his work in Hindi cinema and literature, Gulzar spent his childhood years in Dina. Mr. Mustansar Hussain Tarar, with his immense talent and deep respect for literature and culture, visited our school to honor Gulzar’s contribution to the arts. Mr. Tarar, famous for his engaging storytelling and travel documentaries, was here to film a segment for Karwan, a program that delves into the life of Gulzar, exploring his roots, his journey, and his evolution into a literary and cinematic legend.
Accompanying Mr. Tarar were notable guests: Ms. Rakhshanda Batool, Principal of Degree College Janjeel, and Mr. Gul Sher, Associate Professor of Urdu. Their presence added further significance to the occasion, making it even more memorable for all involved. The visit was a testament to the lasting impact Gulzar has had not only on India’s film industry but also on his hometown, which shaped his formative years.
